From the first World Dwarf Games in 1986 to 2013, German participants were always represented at the games - but never in sufficient numbers to be able to compete as a team in the team sports.
In 2015, some friends with small stature made a decision: this was about to change. They approached the BKMF e. V. (Bundesverband Kleinwüchsige Menschen und ihre Familien) with their idea - and laid the foundation for German dwarf sports.
In April 2017, the time had finally come: a German team of 16 athletes and 4 coaches traveled to Canada for the 7th World Dwarf Games. Prior to this, many of the participants had prepared in a self-organized training camp in Eberswalde - with discipline, team spirit and a lot of passion.
On April 15, 2017, the German Dwarf Sport (DKS) was officially launched as a working group at the BKMF e. V., founded by Marib Aldoais.
Since then, the DKS has continued as a working group - currently under the leadership of Jonathan Vaupel and Mathilda Quantz, who are highly committed to developing sport for people of short stature.
A milestone followed in 2023: The World Dwarf Games took place in Germany for the first time - in Cologne. With over 500 athletes from 29 countries, it was the largest games of their kind to date. With 101 athletes, Team Germany had the largest field of participants.
An idea turned into a huge community that has had and will continue to have a positive impact on the lives of many people of short stature!
